About Mandala Domes

Our Origins

Building on a rich history of Buckminister Fuller's visionary geodesic domes, Mandala Domes is inspired to express the beautiful geometry of these structures through creative living designs.

Mandala Domes History

Mandala Domes began in the early 2000's with two friends, Beej Scherrer and Eric Wallace, sewing geodesic dome covers for events from the remnants of their prior projects.  After several iterations, the pair of creatives and dreamers officially organized into a geodesic dome rental company as to share their expressions with a broader community of event organizers.  To this day, some of their original domes remain in commission for music and art events, as well as weddings and celebrations.

Mandala Domes has been inspired by the ancient aesthetic and spiritual nature of mandalas, geometric configurations of symbols. Mandalas offer a place to focus our attention during meditation.  Mandalas also offer spiritual guidance and are used to establish sacred space.  Integrating the power of mandalas with the integrity and utility of modern geodesic structures has been the guiding force behind this project.  We believe that the aesthetic of a space has a unique funciton, and has as much value as the ability of the shelter to keep you warm and dry.  We enlist beauty throughout the design and production process.  We work to create spaces that both protect and inspire our communities as we gather. Teaching workshops, playing music, and camping out are all made memorable under the shelter of the Mandala.

We Still Rent Domes

Though our focus has shifted to the production of Geodesic Yurts, Mandala Domes still rents geodesic structures for all kinds of events. We have a variety of sizes and styles on hand, ready to liven up your celebration. See photos below of past events and of our variety of dome sizes and patterns.
